Presenting condition: Excruitating period pain
Brief history: Ever since starting her periods 5yrs ago, she suffered with lower back and lower abdominal pain extending into legs and thighs. She had to be in bed with a hot water bottle which was essential for pain relief. This had a major impact on her life as a whole.
Relevant timeline incidents:
0yrs C-section birth.
13yrs Started her periods
Main remedy given: Sepia
After 1st prescription:
Period paid has reduced to dull pain rather than sharp pain, down from 9/10 to 3/10 (66% decrease in pain). This pain was managed with the menstrual cramp mix given. Period bleeding was now consistent rather than ‘stopping and starting’ as previously reported.
After 2nd prescription:
Pain is now 1/10, barely there. Bleeding was heavy during this period but hasn’t stopped. Client is a bit worried. Neela spoke to client every 2 weeks for support and to check in with the new remedies being sent as needed. Main priority for this month was to stem the bleeding and re-set her pattern of bleeding back to a regular cycle, with days when there was no bleeding. This process took a good 2 months. Client was very frustrated as she was in her 1st year of university and also couldn’t observe fasting for Ramadan.
After 3rd prescription:
Client is still bleeding for quite a few days with only a short break in-between. So, cycle length has vastly reduced from 36days down to just 14 days now or even sometimes shorter. No pain has returned during her bleeding, so this result has been maintained throughout
After 4th and 5th prescriptions:
Client is still experiencing extended times of bleeding with little respite. She is feeling exhausted, frustrated and feels she has wasted a lot of money on menstrual pads. Client’s mother has now come on board for meetings so as to gain clarity on the situation. Neela has been sending various different remedies to the client both at her home and university address, having consulted other more experienced homeopaths for additional advice.
After 6th prescription:
Clients’ cycles finally lengthening to 19days, after about 5 months of irregular bleeding. Client has had some bleed-free days in-between her periods.
After 7th prescription:
Cycle length is now about 25days with a more normal bleeding pattern of 3-4 days bleeding and then no more bleeding until the next period. The pain is now very manageable and doesn’t affect her day-to-day activities. Client calls it a mild discomfort and doesn’t even need to use the menstrual cramp mix. Client has achieved the goal of regular periods but without excruciating pain.
Summary:
This was a big learning curve for Neela and the client. I had given quite a high dose of Sepia but for this client is was too much, and this caused an ‘aggravation’. The result of this was pretty much constant bleeding, which was frustrating and very tiresome for this client. Neela has learnt a lot from this case and is confident that this client’s cycles will now continue in a more normal fashion, without the pain.
