Homeopathy For Babies
Using Homeopathy for babies can help give you a happy and healthy baby!
Your baby will grow more rapidly in the first 2yrs of their lives than at any other time! Those first steps, teeth and smiles are all amazing milestones. But some common ailments can cause your cute baby to cry their eyes out!
Here are 5 common issues and how to help them naturally:
1. Colic
Colic is generally caused by trapped wind which presents as hours of high pitched crying usually in the early evening. This can be very distressing for you and your baby! Having a session of cranial-osteopathy can work miracles for this condition. Clockwise gentle massage of baby’s abdomen with chamomile, lavender and fennel essential oils (well diluted in a carrier oil) can help to ease the pain too. If baby is breastfed, then mum should avoid brassica vegetables (broccoli/cauliflower) or spicy foods as this can cause excess wind in baby’s tummy. Carbo veg is a homeopathic remedy that can really help with trapped wind.
2. Teething
Baby’s first tooth is a big milestone but can also be a big pain! Baby’s often want something cool and hard to gnaw on such as a cooled teething ring. Homeopathic remedies such as Chamomilla are really very helpful here.
3. Umbilical cord stump healing
Often the umbilical cord stump will dry nicely and fall off naturally. You can aid healing of this area by bathing it stump in Hypercal solution, twice daily and allow to dry before replacing the nappy. If the area does ooze any pus or smell offensive, then contact your GP or midwife. The area may be infected. Hypericum and calendula remedies can be mixed in water and applied to the stump.
4. Earache
The Eustachian tube in young children is horizontal and hence more prone to becoming blocked with mucus/fluid than adults and older children. Earaches or infections are quite common in children. They can be extremely painful and distressing for your child. Cool or warm compresses externally can help with earaches. Belladonna or Pulsatilla remedies are both relevant here, depending on the specific symptoms.
5. Conjunctivitis
Conjunctivitis is a thick yellow discharge from 1 or both eyes, alongside redness of the eye. Often the eye is itchy, and eyelids can be stuck together upon waking in the morning. Wiping the closed eye(s) with cotton pad dampened with freshly boiled and cooled water can help to get rid of the discharge. Cool compresses applied externally can soothe the itching. Breastmilk dropped carefully in the eye can also help. Pulsatilla remedy is my number one here!
Homeopathy can act quickly in all these cases. It is very palatable for babies and children with no side-effects.
