Men’s health blog!
Men’s health can often be summarized in one short phrase: ‘No, no, I’m fine! I don’t want to bother the doctor!’
This is usually the response you get if you ask a man about any pain or medical issue. However, men’s health problems can be quite serious or even fatal if left too long before being treated.
Here are my top five issues:
- Prostate issues:
The prostate is a chestnut-sized gland that controls the urine flow from the male bladder. Most men’s first indication that something may be wrong is when they suddenly need to urinate very frequently during the night. Often, this is put down to ‘old age,’ but it should always be investigated—at any age! Prostate health is one of the most commonly advertised men’s health issues. You can also see your GP to get your prostate checked.
- Impotence or Erectile dysfunction(ED):
ED is of great importance to men and their partners! The ‘little blue pills’ containing sildenafil do have side-effects and cannot be used by men with heart conditions. Counselling, honest discussions and alternative drug-free therapies can all help with Erectile dysfunction. Selenium, Zinc, and essential fatty acids are key nutrients that are needed to produce and maintain an erection.
- Testicular pain:
Just as women should check their breast tissue regularly for any unusual lumps, men should check their testes in the same way. Pain, discomfort or lumps here can indicate something more sinister going on. Knowing what feels ‘normal’ for you regularly can help identify problems early. Testicular cancer kills 400 men in the UK per year.
- Incontinence:
This can present as constant urine dribbling, an increased urge to urinate but not quite getting to the toilet in time, occasional ‘leaks’, etc. Men may reduce fluid intake to try and stop the urine from leaking. However, this concentrates the urine, which then irritates the bladder lining. This can make things worse! There are incontinence pads specifically designed for men.
- Infertility:
Sperm quantity rates have been dropping steadily over the last 30 years. Infertility still carries a stigma for men and women. Our modern lifestyles contribute a lot more to this issue than you think! Keeping mobile phones and laptops away from the genital area can help with good-quality sperm production.
Homeopathy has excellent remedies and solutions for ALL of the above men’s health issues. It can help with the symptoms as well as address the root cause, which can sometimes be mental or emotional.
