Avoiding Colds
Avoiding colds every winter during “Sneezing Season” can seem impossible right?
Facts:
The average adult has 2-3 colds/year and up to 5 coughs/year. This number rises for children who suffer up to 12 colds/year! Because children’s immune systems are not fully developed until they are about 8yrs old. Therefore they’re more susceptible at a younger age and avoiding colds is hard.
Having a cold is sometimes seen as an inevitability of the cold weather, central heating and return to work/school after the summer holidays. However, it can be miserable for parents taking care of their children or suffering themselves!
So how are some people avoiding colds? What is their secret?
4 Tips to help avoid catching a cold:
Here are some tips to boost your immune system and speed up recovery time:
– Get as much rest as possible! This allows your body time to heal. Children are very good at this – they just crash and sleep!
– Fluids are essential to keep all the mucous membranes working correctly. Warm drinks, soups, juices, water etc.
– High dose Vitamin C, Zinc and Echinacea taken together for 2-3 days at the start of a cold, can vastly speed up recovery time. Vitamin D and B6 are also a good idea here.
– Fruits and vegetables not only contain over 75% water but have vital nutrients to aid the body to heal. Smoothies, soups or even fruit-juice lollies (sore throat) are all a good way to ‘hide’ these for fussy eaters!
