Acne and Acne Treatments!
Acne affects 95% of the UK population aged 11-30! That’s a lot of people suffering with their skin. Because it’s a very visible condition, most people are mocked or ridiculed for it somehow.
‘Pizza-face’
‘Spotty’
‘Don’t you wash your face?’
‘Crater-face’
These offensive and rude remarks can often make the acne sufferer feel really low and angry and even bring on depression.
When does Acne Start?
Acne frequently appears during the teenage years, when looks are everything. Peers can be cruel. Hurtful remarks or snide comments can scar much deeper than the physical acne scars.
Acne vulgaris is characterised by pimples, spots, and pustules on the face, chest, and upper back. These often appear during hormonal surges, e.g., puberty, periods, menopause, etc. Imbalanced hormone levels can overstimulate the sebaceous (oil) glands in the skin, resulting in excess oil, which can block the pores and cause acne.
Here are my top five tips for treating acne:
- Drink plenty of water!
Not only does this help hydrate your skin, but it aids in the elimination of toxins through the bowels and bladder. Your internal organs ‘grab’ any water you drink before it reaches your skin.
- Avoid alcohol, caffeine and drugs.
These are all toxins that the liver must eliminate. If your liver is overworked, it can’t break down the extra hormones circulating in your bloodstream. Try using natural products on your skin, like Tropic skincare.
- Avoid make-up and wash your face twice daily only.
Washing with a sulphur-based soap twice daily can help keep the oil in check. Overwashing can cause the skin to produce even more oil, setting up a vicious cycle. Makeup blocks the pores. Try to let the skin breathe as much as possible to decrease the chances of spots becoming infected.
- Eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. Consider taking some supplements.
Avoid dairy products, as these can generally increase mucus in the body. Eating foods high in sugar and fat is not good for your body. Your skin is your biggest organ, so choose carefully what you are feeding it! Fresh fruit and vegetables will keep your skin, internal organs, and digestion all working beautifully. Supplements that can help are Vitamin C/D/E/ B complex, natural beta-carotene, omega-3 oils, chromium, zinc, and selenium.
- Seek help from a homeopath to balance your hormones.
Homeopathic remedies can help rebalance your hormones naturally without side effects. Many excellent remedies can help with sore, unsightly spots and treat the underlying cause.
