0.3% of UK adults suffer with a gastric ulcer. Peptic ulcers can be found in the stomach or the duodenum. They are caused by the stomach lining being damaged and the stomach acid attacking the tissue. NSAID drugs, stress, smoking and H.pylori infections can all cause stomach ulcers.
Symptoms include: burning or knowing pain which can be better for eating, indigestion, heartburn, unexplained weight loss, nausea and vomiting, poor appetite, and the pain can wake you in the night.
Gastric ulcer: peptic ulcer in the stomach
Duodenal ulcer: peptic ulcer in the duodenum (first part of the small intestine)
Conventional treatment is PPI (proton pump inhibitor) drugs which vastly reduce the amount of stomach acid produced. They do have cardiac side effects. Stepping down and discontinuing them is often not monitored at all and people can end up on them for years and years. Nutrients from your food may not be absorbed correctly or at all due to the stomach pH being altered by the drugs.
In energetic terms, stomach issues can indicate a dread or fear of the new. Also, an inability to assimilate the new. Peptic ulcers mean being anxious to please, a belief or fear that you are not good enough.
Here are my 5 top tips for gastric ulcers:
- Supplements.
Co Enzyme Q10, zinc, omega 3, L-glutamine, MSM, pectin, bromelain, Vitamin B complex, Vit C, Vit D, Vit E, and Vit K can all help with gastric ulcers.
- Food choices.
Kefir can help support your gut microbiome. Chew your food very well so your stomach and digestive system don’t have to work so hard. Manuka honey on an empty stomach can be soothing.
- Tea and herbal tinctures.
Comfrey tea can be soothing for gastric ulcers, as can Calendula herbal tincture. Please email me for dosage instructions.
- More Food choices.
All these foods can be soothing and healing for gastric ulcers: Green unripe bananas or plantain, carrot juice, berries, cabbage, aloe vera juice, Greek mastic gum, and okra which soothes the mucus membranes.
- Check your stools.
If your stools are black or a darker colour and you are not taking an iron supplement, then please tell your GP as this can indicate internal bleeding which can be very serious.
