Multiple allergies and eating plastic
Presenting condition:
Cat with multiple allergies which present as lip swelling and over grooming. Eats plastic and sticky tape!
Relevant timeline incidents:
0yr Born in a cat rescue centre in Dubai
4months Adopted by UK owner and flown in cargo hold to the UK. Arrived with ringworm rash on head. Treated by UK owner for 2 months with antifungal shampoo. Living in a flat with a balcony, so unable to go outside.
6months Neutered. Itchy lumps appeared under his chin. Over grooming so fur licked away. Ate 7 human contraceptive pills! Taken to the vet and had his stomach pumped.
9months Lips started to swell. Vet did blood test and discovered multiple allergies including grass and trees.
Main remedy: Sulphur
After 1st prescription:
Scratching slightly less than before. Fur is growing back now a bit. Lip swollen but owner linked this to new toy of cat nip. Still trying to eat plastic wires and sticky tape. Better for regular stimulation with toys and a ‘walk’ on the balcony.
After 2nd prescription:
The lip swelling responded well to the remedy given. Owner not seen him scratch for over 2 weeks now. Fur under chin is growing back nicely and there are no lumps here now. Still trying to eat plastic wires and sticky tape. Acting like a dog! Still enjoying ‘walk’ on the balcony.
After 3rd prescription:
No more lumps under the chin and the fur has all grown back as normal. He has not scratched and is no longer sneezing excessively. Still eating sticky tape! Will be moving home soon.
After 4th prescription:
No more sneezing, scratching or lip swelling. Move went well and the remedies for this helped him settle in. He is able to go outside now and is much happier. He bites less, is more affectionate and less needy. Only tries to eat hair ties now, not plastic or sticky tape.
Summary:
This cat had come from abroad to the UK. He had multiple allergies and the owner didn’t want to give him steroids for treatment. He is now allergy free and loving life!
