Presenting condition:
Suffering with Ulcerative colitis for 13yrs. Stools during a flare up are ‘jelly-like’ with copious abouts of wind, mucus and blood in stools.
Brief history:
Flare ups can be as long as 2yrs. Has had lots of drugs from the GP as well as invasive procedures to check on the bowels.
Relevant timeline incidents:
0yrs Only child
5yrs Parents both worked hard so she spent a lot of time with her grandparents.
56yrs Court case involving an estate agent. Forced to sell their house but didn’t want to.
60yrs Resigned from teaching post as they refused to let her have time off for her daughter’s wedding in USA. Wasn’t happy with the way the profession was heading.
63yrs Diagnosed with Ulcerative colitis
Main remedy given: Nat Mur
After 1st prescription:
Very pleased with the remedies. Mucus still present in bowels, but the blood is more clotted than liquid. Less bloating during the day – much more comfortable. Urge to stool wakes her in the early morning and she has to rush out of bed to the toilet.
After 2nd prescription:
No more diarrhoea! This is fantastic. No more blood or mucus in the stool. However not much control over her bowels and has had some accidents. Not rushing to the toilet in morning. Started on 30days of decreasing dose of oral steroids.
After 3rd prescription:
Stools consistency changed considerably! Much firmer than before. Still no blood or mucus in the stool. Lack of control still there but she suspects some damage from previous colonoscopy.
After 4th prescription:
Oral steroids finished now so jelly-like clear mucus and small amount of blood in stools. Most days feeling in control of bowel movements.
After 5th prescription:
Terrific bowels! No mucus or blood. Going regularly twice a day with formed stools. No urgency in the morning driving her out of bed. Control is better than before but not totally there yet.
After 6th prescription:
Bowels are about the same. Less windy in the day time. Urgency still there so there have been some accidents.
After 7th prescription:
Bowels are really good. No mucus, bleeding or diarrhoea. Less accidents than last month.
After 8th prescription:
Bowels are still really good. No mucus, bleeding or diarrhoea. Hardly 1-2 accidents. Confidence in not having accidents has increased. 90% better!
Summary:
This lady is still being treated and I’m sure will continue to improve. Her ulcerative colitis was a chronic condition and was affecting her life, and her ability to care for her husband who suffers with dementia. Her aim is to treat this with supplements, homeopathy and other alternative methods. She has come a long way in a few months with me.
