‘Flu symptoms and treatments
Influenza or ‘flu is defined as a common viral illness which is more prevalent in the winter months. Viruses mutate so you can suffer from different strains throughout your lifetime.
Symptoms: high temperature, sweating, shivering, aching body and muscles, lethargy, dry cough, sore throat, headache, loss of appetite, and can last up to 7-10days.
What’s the difference between a cold and the ‘flu?
Colds are generally less severe than ‘flu. Symptoms here are: mild fever or none at all, nasal issues such as a runny or blocked nose, sneezing, sore throat, headache, loss of smell, and can last 3-7 days. You can still continue your daily activities.
If you are suffering from the ‘flu, you can’t do your daily activities. Generally, you crawl from your bed to the bathroom and back again. I call it the ‘£50 note disease’. If there was a £50 note on the floor, you wouldn’t pick it up as you are too ill to do it!
There are lots of different strains of cold and ‘flu viruses and they mutate as stated above. C19 is 1 of a family of 7 viruses, 4 of which are the common cold. I’ve not given any statistics here as they are quite muddled for the last few years due to C19 data.
Conventional medicine treatments include a certain ‘hot lemon’ drink which encourages you to ‘power through’ your cold or ‘flu. Well, this product contains E numbers which produce these side effects: nausea, migraines, stomach irritation, hyperactivity, thyroid issues, inflammation, and a neurotoxin that can build up and damage your DNA! Another liquid treatment just makes you drowsy as it contains a sedating antihistamine, but this doesn’t help the body to move through the cold or ‘flu efficiently.
‘If you don’t rest, your body will choose a rest day for you, and it won’t be convenient!’
Conventional medicine also doesn’t take into account susceptibility. If you work in an open-plan office and Sue from accounts has a cold, chances are most people will then ‘catch’ that cold. However not everyone does. There are always those few individuals who don’t seem to catch anything. Why is this? What are they doing to keep themselves healthy? Maybe they are using homeopathy!
How to treat the ‘flu naturally:
- 3 R’s – rest, rest and rest! Listen to your body and don’t push yourself.
- Lots of fluids, easy to eat foods such as soup.
- Echinacea tincture + Vit C + Zinc, 3xtimes a day – my magic combo.
- Hot honey, lemon, garlic, ginger and turmeric tea.
- Homeopathic remedies: Gelsemium, Eupat perf and ocillococcilum.
How to prevent frequent bouts of ‘flu and/or colds:
There are many ways to support your immune system long term. Having a robust immune system doesn’t mean you will never get ill. It means that the times you are ill are few and far between. It also means that you move quickly and efficiently through the disease.
- Get good quality sleep
- Eat a wide variety of organic fresh fruits and vegetables
- Choose organic grass-fed meat and organic milk/eggs
- Daily movement such as walking or an exercise class
- Spend time in nature (combine with above for 2-for-1 benefit)
- Find something that brings you joy and laughter
- Learn relaxation techniques such as breathwork, yoga or meditation. Practice them regularly.
- Drink plenty of clean filtered water
- Do not ‘over-clean’ things! We live in symbiosis with fungi, bacteria and viruses on our skin and inside our bodies. We can’t live without them.
